Knowing Manado State University (UNIMA)

Before choosing a university, of course, we need to know the background, history, vision, mission, faculties, the departments and the programs which are available in it. In essence, we must know and understand our destination, in this case, that is UNIMA. Therefore, first of all, I will discuss the history of  Manado  State University in this article.

The History

Manado State University, which is abbreviated to UNIMA is one public university located in the province of North Sulawesi. UNIMA is located in a mountainous area of ​​Minahasa District, 800 meters above sea level and about 40 km from Manado, the provincial capital. UNIMA has an area of ​​270ha with cold temperatures (24-270C), and reached 180C at night, so the atmosphere becomes more conducive for learning and teaching. UNIMA derived from the Higher Education Teacher (in Indonesia PTPG) - one of the four PTPG first established in Indonesia, PTPG Batusanggkar, PTPG Malang, PTPG Bandung, PTPG Tondano, based on the Decree of the Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia Number 22 September 2450/KB/1955 , 1955. PTPG Tondano undergone various changes: initially be FKIP Hasanuddin University, Makassar, then turned into FKIP Unhas Tondano in Manado, FKIP Unsulutteng, Teachers 'Training College Branch Yogyakarta Manado, Manado Teachers' Training College and the latter being a stand-alone based on the Decree No. 38 dated PTIP March 8, 1965 in conjunction with Presidential Decree No. 275 of 1965 dated 14 September 1965. On 13 September 2000, IKIP Manado converted Manado State University by Indonesian Presidential Decree No. 127 of 2000 and was inaugurated by the Minister of National Education of the Republic of Indonesia Mr. Yahya Muhaimin on October 14 , 2000. Based on that Presidential Decree No. 127 of 2000, Manado State University (UNIMA) which is currently led by the Rector, Prof.. Dr.. Philoteus EA. Tuerah, M.Si, DEA, has a dual function, in addition to creating experts and professionals in the field of education, also creating experts and professionals in the field of non-educational.

Since 2008, UNIMA has led by Prof. Dr. Ph. EA Tuerah, M.Si, DEA as the Rector of the period 2008-2012. In addition to the main task, UNIMA also entrusted to hold teacher certification programs, professional education, and academic teacher qualification improvement programs. Also be encouraged institutional cooperation with various universities abroad such as New Castle Australia, and several universities in France, and cooperation with various local governments.

From the historical records in advance, obtained clues that: (1) Many of the ideas / past efforts worthy breakthrough followed up on an ongoing basis and planned, (2) the development of UNIMA needed breakthrough creative and innovative futures and planned ahead of time in order to stimulate UNIMA progress towards national and international UNIMA, and independent, and (3) development of UNIMA should always be in line with the needs of local, regional INTIMATE, nationally and internationally.

In addition to knowing its history, we also must know about the vision and mission of UNIMA. Because of the vision and mission, we can see both the condition and the attainment of a university.

Vision UNIMA:

To be a dignified, qualified, and competitively superior in education programs, research and community service.

Mission UNIMA:

1. Realizing the educational process that is able to carry out the functions as LPTKs in generating teacher and professional education personnel.

2. Achieve a good quality education inputs, processes, and outputs, competitive, and relevant to the needs of the community.

3. Brought management education that is efficient, effective, accountable and productive through good governance (good governance) in the frame of regional autonomy and decentralization in education.

4. Delivering innovative research capacity and quality in the development of science and technology especially in the field of education and teaching, and solving problems of national and regional development.

5. Creating capacity and quality of technology transfer and the art within the framework of strengthening community service and revenue generating.

6. Achieving social responsibility in higher education equity framework in Indonesia.

Well, apart from that we also have to recognize that there are faculties in UNIMA. UNIMA itself consists of three campus locations, which are located in Tondano for Campus A, Campus B is located in Matani 1, Tomohon and Campus C (Pg) in Kleak, Manado. There are 7 Faculties in UNIMA. I will mention the names contained in Manado State University below.

The Faculties

1. Faculty of Education

           The faculty is also known as the Campus B UNIMA because it is located in Tomohon, precisely in the Village Matani 1 / Kaaten, except for Psychology Studies Program and Hindu Religious Education Program is located in Tondano. This faculty can be reached by public transport. In this faculty there are some majors / programs of study, which is as follows:

5. Programs Competitive Intellegence (CI)

          The program is located at Campus A UNIMA (Tondano). The program can be reached by public transport. The program is a collaboration between Manado State University and  Aix Marseille III University.

Besides all the faculties which I have mentioned above, UNIMA also has the  facilities. Those are:

-        Lecture rooms: 288 rooms.

-        Library: spacious 6,000 m2 (consisting of the Central Library, and 6 reading rooms on each Faculty), a collection of 2,855 copies (381 copies Text Books, Research / Papers / Thesis / Thesis 723, 796 copies Dissertation, P2T 547, 161 copies of the book prize , periodical publishing-foreign publications: 122 copies, 123 eksmplar domestic issue, newspaper publishing -2).

-        Laboratory / Workshop: an area of ​​12 251 m2 (number 11 lab units).

-        Research institute: Institute of Research, Institute for Community Service - an area of ​​1,000 m2.

-        Student Activities: Student Council supported building with an area of ​​1,000 m2.

-        Sports facilities: football stadium (17,680 m2), 4 tennis courts (2,500 m2), 1 swimming pool (2,600 m2), courts (basketball, volleyball).

-        Other facilities: a computer center, WIFI, Satellite Education System, Studio and Workshop, Printing and Publishing, Guidance Tutorial, Post Office, Bank, Health Clinic, student dormitories (hostel in Tomohon 800 m2, 800 m2 dormitories in Tondano).
